The inspirational Claire Lomas yesterday completed the London Marathon after 16 days walking in her 'bionic suit'. Claire was left paralysed from the chest down after an eventing accident in 2007 and has raised over £100,000 for Spinal Research. Now she's enjoying a well earned rest, I wonder how we in Melton Mowbray can honour her?

You can follow Claire on Twitter @claire80lomas and you can donate to Spinal Research on her Just Giving page.

Her story has made local, national and international news, and below is a selection of links including some great video footage from the BBC which was used on their news bulletins throughout the day.

Spinal Research also Tweeted this picture of today's national newspaper's which feature pictures of Claire completing the marathon on the front page of both The Guardian and The Independent.

Claire lives in Eye Kettleby just outside Melton Mowbray and having seen so much coverage of her on TV over the past few days, it's got me thinking about how Melton Mowbray can honour her achievement? We can individually donate to Spinal Research on her Just Giving page, but I wonder if there could be a public recognition of her achievement by the town as a whole?

Having seen her walking the streets of London, it would be great to see her on a short walk in Melton Mowbray. Whether this is possible or not - I understand the bionic suit was borrowed for the marathon - I hope the people of Melton Mowbray will have an opportunity to publically show their support and appreciation for her. Well done Claire - you are an inspiration!

Charlie Massey @charliecoffee who is a Spinal Research marathon fundraiser and accompanied Claire during her marathon, suggested on Twitter:

"You could always name a pork pie after @claire80lomas I think she would see the funny side!"
